Right to Fork

You have the right to fork since we all "own" the content and software created here. In the event that wikiHow's steward Jack Herrick fails to act in a manner consistent with our mission, the community can move everything to a new server run by a different steward or organization. In contrast, on most other websites the software and content are the proprietary property of the controlling corporation. Users in those communities are locked into those corporations and have only one right: the Right to Leave.

Open

wikiHow is open by design. wikiHow works precisely because it is so open, not in spite of it.

Be a Builder

"Being a Builder" is also a metaphor for having each action on the site being constructive. Builders understand that wikiHow is a do-ocracy where constructive actions help our mission and disruptive actions detract from our goals. Builders recognize the process of how we build wikiHow is as important as the product we are building.
