How to Use a Social Bookmark Site

These sites not only give you the opportunity to store your bookmarks online, they allow you to share these bookmarks with others. Why is that interesting? Youll be able to get your bookmarks anywhere, plus youll get turned on to other sites you might never have found.

[edit] Steps

  1. Sign onto http://del.icio.us or http://www.connectedy.com and enter some of your bookmarks. Remember to tag them. (more on that below)
  2. Pull a Post to Delicious or Add to Connectedy bookmarklet onto your toolbar for easy submitting. This will enable you to put whatever site you are browsing at any time directly into your Del.icio.us file.
  3. Tags-These are not only the way you organize your bookmarks, they are the way others will use your bookmarks. For instance, if I want to bookmark http://www.g4tv.com, I might use tags like video games, television, tech, and news. Now, when others do a search for any of these tags, G4s site link will show up.
  4. Of course, you may find many people will have tagged this link as it has advertising dollars pushing it. But a personal blog might only have a handful of people subscribed to their link. It is always interesting to check those poorly subscribed links. You might find a real gem. These often are sites that people are just discovering. Of course, you might find a useless time waster too, but it never hurts to check it out. Checking out other subscribers links will keep you occupied for hours.

[edit] Tips

  • Remember, add as many descriptive tags as possible to your links. It makes your links more easily searched. Also, tags are separated by spaces, not commas.
