How to Be a Spy Kid

Spying can be fun and exciting, but it's not easy! This guide will help you organize a team with your friends for an adventure!

[edit] Steps

  1. Organize Your team. Spying is safer and way more fun with two or more people. Your teammates can back you up and can help complete your mission faster (sometimes). You should have one teammate who knows a lot about technology, such as computer shortcuts and knowledge of gadgets. The tech member can also make maps, plans, charts, and notes about the secret mission. Being clever doesn't hurt either. All of the teammates should have code names so others won't know what you're talking about. Try: One technical whiz, one scout (to survey the area), one tracker (to track the target down) and a stealthy person.
  2. Set up a hierarchy for your team. Pick a captain, who is usually the tech partner. The captain should coordinate your other members' actions during a mission.
  3. Choose a special spot for a base like your own area that nobody disturbs you in, or somewhere that your mom doesn't clean. A perfect spot would be your room, especially in your closet if there are a lot of spots where you can hide things. A treehouse would be great! If you do not have one ask your mom or dad to put up a tent in the spring.
  4. Obtain your team's gadgets. Buy or make some communication devices, night vision gear for night missions, surveillance equipment for spying, and clothes that blend in, and are not too much of a giveaway. Sometimes wearing your ordinary clothes is better. This way, no one will suspect you. Gloves are useful. if you don't have any tools then be really carefull.
  5. Practice using the gadgets. But be careful!!!!!! Do several practice runs in a different location than the actual mission to test and get used to your gadgets and clothes. This way, you will know the shortcuts and limits of your equipment.
  6. Gather intelligence. Scout out the surroundings of your mission's location for any hiding spots or escape routes. Make a map and take notes. Know where everyone will be posted and what they will do. Also make a backup plan or two.
  7. Enhance your communication. Encrypt your written messages with a simple code. They can be as simple as substituting a letter for another, or you can use numbers for letter or make up entirely new symbols that correspond to the alphabet. An advanced method (and harder to decrypt) would be to flip the word backwards, and then substitute the letters.
  8. Decide upon some kind of mission. For example, you might figure out where your guardians hide the cookies, or figure out the password to a friends club, find out what your girlfriend does at slumber parties, or find out which neighborhood dog has been dirtying your dad's prized lawn.

Commencement

  1. Station each member at their posts. Each member should have a communication device, preferably with headsets, as to minimize noise. When everyone is ready, commence the mission!
  2. Don't be seen or heard. Have a good hiding spot for each member, such as a large tree, bushes, or boulders. Also, you can inconspicuously have a teammate casually stroll by, with a book or something in hand. Don't do this too much, though, or it will seem suspicious.
  3. Cover your tracks. Make sure you and your teammates don't leave anything behind. Destroy any footprints on dirt or mud, ( and destroy any accidental finger prints if you notice some).
  4. Rendezvous after the mission. There should be a meeting place after the mission to gather information from each team member. If members don't show up, return to your posts and try to find where the missing member is.

Post Mission

  1. Store any information in a secure place. Try a locked box, or a password protected computer.
  2. Act naturally. Don't avoid the enemy and meet at your normal times as if nothing happened.
