How to Train for Boxing

Training to become a boxer, takes a lot of effort, discipline, and self confidence. To start with, buy a punching bag, find a friend to spar with, and get some boxing gloves. When you are seriously considering boxing as a career, you need to join a gym, and find a trainer to work with who can get you into shape.

[edit] Steps

  1. Get into shape by running every morning for at least 30 - 60 minutes to start. Build up to running longer distances.
  2. Pump iron by lifting ten pounds for at least 20 minutes, or 50-100 pounds for 5 minutes. Try to do this with someone else around. Many accidents can happen when someone is learning to do this.
  3. Make sure your diet consists only of healthy foods. Choose proteins as the basis of your diet, and eliminate high calories. Drink plenty of water each day. The more water you take in, the better it will be for your body. Avoid junk food as much as possible.
  4. Get a punching bag and use the correct "punching format" for about 30 minutes a day, building up to more. Try to belong to a gym, where you can be around others, or this can get a bit boring. However, if you use the punching bag at home, turn on some music, and punch to the beat of the tune.
  5. Hit the floor and do at least 50 push-ups a day. Again, build up slowly. This will build up your strength in your arms as well as legs.
  6. Train your abs! This lets you take a punch better as well as making you look sexy without a shirt. Do at least 50 - 100 sit-ups a day. Also getting someone to drop a medicine ball or something of similar weight onto your abs while you do sit-ups or crunches will make them even stronger
  7. Find a sparring partner and spar. This is the only way to get realistic practice.
  8. When you think you are ready, try for an amateur boxing league/or tournament around your area, not only will this give you experience, but you can also set goals and compare your progress.

[edit] Tips

  • Make sure to start and finish your excercises with stretches. This will help your punches and make you a better boxer.
  • If you have free time, watching boxing on TV will help you learn from the pros.

[edit] Warnings

  • Do NOT over train. If you feel light headed or faint, take a break until you feel better.
  • Don't do drugs or take steroids. These will make your balance and focus horrible, won't usually work, and are illegal.
  • Always eat breakfast, especially after a big workout, as you may feel tired or light-headed if you don't.
