How to Stop Dogs from Eating Dog Poop

Dog Coprophagia is a prevalent problem in pet dogs. There are some simple techniques you can employ to stop this filthy and potentially dangerous problem.

[edit] Steps

  1. Determine why your puppy or older dog is eating poop. It will be caused by an underlying medical condition or a canine behavioral problem.
  2. Take your dog to a veterinarian to rule out medical problems and give you some advice.
  3. Give your dog heaps of physical and mental stimulation.
  4. Feed your dog 2-3 small, well balanced and nutritious meals every day.
  5. Teach your dog the obedience training command "off" or "away".

[edit] Tips

  • Be consistent and never allow your dog to eat poop - you need to break the habit.
  • Ask your vet about Forbid; it makes poop taste bad.
  • Don't feed your dog people food; this could cause problems in your quest.
  • Grate zucchini into fine ribbons and blanch in boiling water. Cool & mix in with your dog's food. If your dog finds this unpalatable, add beef broth or yogurt to the mixture. The bitter taste of the zucchini discourages dogs from eating their poo.

[edit] Warnings

  • If your dog has a liking for poop ensure that you keep his/her vaccinations and worming up to date. There are serious pests that your dog can get without the proper treatment.
