Many of us have had the problem of a dead or depleted battery. However, owners of vehicles with manual transmissions (standard or "stick shift") can start their car even if the battery is dead!

Get a couple of people to help you.
Push the car to an area where you have some room to get some speed.
Have someone who knows how to drive the vehicle get in the car.
Turn the key to the "On" position (but don't try to start the car!).
Put the car in 2nd gear, and hold in the clutch.
Tell your helpers to push!
Let out the clutch, and give it some gas when the vehicle reaches 5-7mph (8-10kph). The car will start.
Thank your helpers, and continue on your way.

This works best if you can roll down the hill. If you have a hill, you may not need helpers.

Make sure nobody is in front of the car when you attempt to push start it.
Be careful when starting the car. Make sure you give the car enough gas to get it started.
