How to Recover from Repetitive Stress Injury

If you sit at a computer all day, you are a Computer Athlete. It takes muscle power to sit and it takes muscle power to stare at a computer screen. Are your sitting and staring muscles fit for the job? Do you warm up and cool down before performing your sport? Do you stretch before or after? Do you know what muscles you are using when you sit? Do you know what muscles you are using when you stare? These are the muscles to get fit and loose and long. When you sit and stare, you hold tension in your body. These muscles become short and tight. Below are steps to lengthen and loosen them to relieve the tension and prevent injury.

  1. Don't work at the computer for more than 15 minutes without taking a break.
  2. When you take a break, do one or more of the following:
    • Squeeze your eyes shut.
    • Open them wide.
    • Shrug your shoulders.
    • Rotate your arms while they are out to the sides.
    • Stand up and arch your back.
