How to React After Your wikiHow Article Has Been Deleted

a familiar statement for many
a familiar statement for many

More than likely, you are upset right now. You spent time writing an article only to have it deleted. You may feel that you've had very little say in the matter. Or you may just simply not like the way that wikiHow serves its mission statement. So do something about it.

[edit] Steps

  1. Breathe. Take time away from wikiHow so you can later look at the situation objectively. Go do something that makes you happy - eat a Mars Bar; watch an NHL game; take your frustration out on a punching bag; rant on your blog; watch your son's baseball game. Forget about wikiHow.
  2. Recognize the situation. When you're ready to re-evaluate, consider that the wikiHow administrators take their posts very seriously. They spend large amounts of time contributing to wikiHow to make it the "highest quality how-to manual." You may not agree with how they choose to achieve that goal, but be aware that the power is currently in their hands.
  3. Choose how you would like to proceed. There are several articles available that tell you how to post a successful entry on wikiHow. If you'd like to, you can repost under the asserted guidelines. Otherwise, you may choose to submit an article on a different topic. With either of these two options, you must remember that wikiHow takes each post seriously. Some would argue too seriously. So if there is doubt in your mind about whether it could be deleted, don't waste your time. Think of it in the most radical terms - to ensure success, be as politically correct as you can possibly be when addressing the topic. Or, you may choose to take a more active approach as in step 4.
  4. Seek to change wikiHow if you are truly dissatisfied. As per its mission statement, wikiHow is, first and foremost, a "collaboration." By its very definition, wikiHow asks that you address your concerns with the community, as long as it is done so respectfully. As such, first participate in the discussion pages for articles that are up for deletion. Show your determination to make wikiHow better. Try to become an administrator. Show your dedication to wikiHow in order to be taken seriously. You may also choose to propose policy changes. Again, policy changes are not taken lightly. Try to gain support for your cause amongst like-minded members.

[edit] Tips

  • Address everything in a calm, well thought out manner. wikiHow is not a place for many things.
  • People respond to positivity. Find a way to speak about everything in a positive and non-sarcastic manner.

[edit] Warnings

  • Becoming too aggressive can result in being blocked from wikiHow.
  • Being involved in wikiHow can become time consuming. Remember to take time away to enjoy all of the things that life has to offer.
