How to Play Unique Music

If you've been playing only one style, such as heavy metal or country or classical, don't be afraid to mix styles for an unique sound.

[edit] Steps

  1. Gather some friends and tell them to learn an instrument. One of your friends may learn something simple as a triangle or someone may learn to play the saxophone.
  2. Be creative. If one of your friends has a steel drum don't be afraid to combine it with a banjo, your cousin gave you as a hand-me-down. Smoothen the banjo sound for a calypso feeling or make them play at the same time for a special sound
  3. Try different combinations. You should have a percussionist, a person playing the melody and the person making a background. For example, a bongo drum with a flute and keyboard.

[edit] Tips

  • Music has emotion. Think about the feeling you want your song to create
  • Add lyrics if you want to
  • Let limitations be your creativity. If you know how to play flute and all you can find is to play with you is a good bongo player, then go with it.
  • Don't forget, often times, less is more. Use your discretion.

[edit] Warnings

  • Do not try and clash styles together, otherwise it will sound ugly
  • Sometimes, the whole is less than the sum of the parts. The more unusual the sound, the stronger the leadership must be to make seamless whole, however wacky.
  • Being weird is no excuse for being bad. If you can't tell the difference between good noise and bad noise, don't make noise.
