How to Make Shahi Tukre (Bread Based Sweet)

This delicious dessert can be made very quickly and tastes quite exotic.


[edit] Ingredients

  • 8 bread slices (preferably white bread)
  • 12 tbsp condensed milk
  • 1 litre milk
  • 1 tsp ground cardamom
  • Ghee (Clarified Butter)
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 30 gm each almonds, pistas, walnut, cashew nuts and raisins

[edit] Steps

  1. Trim the edges of the bread slices and cut them into four pieces.
  2. Heat ghee for frying in a wok. Deep fry the bread pieces in ghee to a golden brown color.
  3. Separately, fry all the nuts in ghee and pound coarsely.
  4. Boil the milk in an open pan and add in condensed milk, sugar, cardamom and nutmeg on low flame.
  5. When the mixture thickens put the fried bread slices side by side in the pan.
  6. Let it cook till the bread absorbs all the moisture. Serve cold garnished with nuts, raisins and silver barak.


[edit] Tips

  • You can serve this with icecream or khubani ka meetha also.
  • Place the bread pieces after frying over some tissue, so the exceess ghee is soaked out.
  • If you want to cut down on most of the fat, you can even toast the bread on a pan, but it will be soggy and will not taste as good.

  • Hot ghee is exactly that very very very very hot, be very careful when you are handling it.
