How to Make Rose Petal Punch

The average sparkling wine can be transformed into something quite sensational with the addition of fragrant rose petals. This is a wonderful wedding or celebratory occasion punch and is just the ticket for a perfect summer's day.

[edit] Ingredients

  • 11 oz/300g fragrant (scented) rose petals from an organic, non-sprayed source
  • 3 1/2 oz/90g/ 1/3 cup fine/caster sugar
  • 7 tbsp/105 ml raspberry liqueur
  • 1 bottle dry white wine
  • 1 bottle demi-sec sparkling wine (or champagne)
  • Additional rose petals to decorate, blooms also suitable

[edit] Steps

  1. Chill the wine.
  2. Place the rose petals in a bowl. Sprinkle the caster sugar over the petals.
  3. Pour the liqueur over the petals and put the bowl in the refrigerator until chilled.
  4. Remove from the refrigerator and pour in the wine. Return to the refrigerator to chill for a few hours.
  5. Strain out the rose petals. The easiest method is to put a sieve over the top of a jug and pour.
  6. Serve. Put the jug out for serving. Float fresh rose petals on the top of the jug for decorative effect. Add ice cubes if wished.

[edit] Tips

  • Be sure to select fragrance rose petals; many roses are not fragrant, with more effort put into the beauty of the bloom. Sniff first!
