How to Look Like a Farmer for Halloween
A farmer costume is basically a less straw-filled scare-crow costume. It can be made cheaply and easily, with either items you have already or found at thrift stores.
[edit] Steps
- Get some thick, well-worn denims. Either regular pants (not flare, and only boot-leg if you plan on wearing boots), or over-alls will work. They should be sturdy, working material, and look like they are at least a few years old.
- Put on a flannel shirt. These are warm for October's chilly nights, and good for working in.
- If it's really cold, put on some scratchy wool mittens and a hat, as well as a thick vest.
- If it's warmer, put on an old baseball cap.
- Wear working shoes. Runners are not working shoes. Boots are. But not fancy cowboy boots, only worn down ones IF you are going for a "Western" look.
- For extra farm touches, try to find a fake feathered chicken to carry around, or a basket with fake eggs (eggs can be found at craft stores). Carrying a pitchfork or rake may LOOK fun, but it isn't. You may want some leather work gloves tucked into a pocket.
