How to Look Good in Ceramic Braces
Ceramic braces are the brackets that are the same size and shape as metal brackets but are "tooth" colored to blend in more. Ceramic braces can be a great alternative to metal braces/ clear braces if you keep them well. Ceramic braces are a lot less noticeable then metal braces and move teeth much faster then clear plastic aligners do.
[edit] Steps
- Keep them clean! This is the most important step. Use an electric toothbrush 2-4 times a day with whitening toothpaste to keep the ceramic brackets clean. The brackets will stain yellowish if they are not brushed correctly, and this is not attractive. As long as you use an electric toothbrush- which cleans much better than manual- the brackets will look fresh and blend in with your teeth
- Be confident! This may seem very hard, especially when your friends/family do not all have braces but it is absolutely necessary to be positive. Smile wide, people will look past the braces and love your big happy smile
- Go regularly to get your ligatures (rubber bands around your brackets) changed. Usually ceramic braces go along with clear ligatures. These can stain easily, so getting them changed regularly at the orthodontist is a must!
- Play up your best features. Make people notice other things besides your braces, like big eyes or good skin.
[edit] Tips
- Use an electric toothbrush. Not only will they prevent your braces from staining, and remove plaque from your teeth, but they will also increase blood flow to your gums which will help move your teeth faster
- Ask your orthodontist for tooth colored wire instead of metal wire. This is also less noticeable, and will blend better with your ceramic braces and clear ligatures.
- Drink colored juices and sodas with a straw. Drink clear seltzer instead of regular cola.
- Keep mouth and braces fresh with minty gum, lip gloss, and breath spray
[edit] Warnings
- Avoid all foods that may stain your braces and rubber bands. This includes berries, soups, pasta sauce, etc. Anything that has color in it can stain your braces. If you do decide to eat a food that may stain, brush your braces immediately after eating that food. Also, drink clear water with your meals to help wash braces while eating. Drink all sodas and juices with straws placed behind your teeth to avoid staining.
- Ceramic braces loose their appeal once they turn yellow, so keeping them clean and white is a must!

- Good electric toothbrush. Sonicare and Crest SpinBrush are good options.
- Whitening toothpaste
- Straws
- Toothpicks (always good to have with braces)
