Helping out around the house is a simple, yet effective way to a
healthier family lifestyle. This may help your parents feel more
relaxed, allow you to not feel ashamed if you invite friends over,
and also prepare you for work and parenting, as you start at a
young age.

Relax with your family.
- Start small. Start to help by doing small jobs, such as
taking out the trash, making your bed each morning, or even helping
younger siblings. These small chores can make family living much
easier, especially when you do them without being told to.
- Become organized. Creating a list of the appropriate
tasks that need to be performed during the day ahead can easily
help you. They can organize your schoolwork, make your life easier,
and help your family's daily lives be more enjoyable.
- Keep calm. Being a mature teenager means not putting up
a fight every time you're asked to do something. When your parent
or guardian asks you to help out, don't back down. Instead, put a
happy smile on your face, and complete the daily chores. Your
parents, siblings, and pets will thank you.
- Respect your family. Whenever your parents set rules or
chores to be followed, don't moan. Parents were children too, and
know how annoying life can be sometimes. Chances are, those rules
and tasks are there to help you and keep you safe. Curfews and
chores may seem like a grind, but they'll help you keep in
order.
- Work with your Parents. Parents like a teenager that
carries in the shopping with them, not for them. Parents have to
set the example, and get things out of the way. Instead of offering
to do that chore for them, offer to do that chore
with them.
- Make sure your friends behave well, too, and they're not cheeky
or rude to your family. Whenever a friend or guest arrives, make
sure they take off their shoes and speak kindly to your
family.
- Offer to make your parents a drink when they arrive home from
work, but don't pester them about it. Speak to them calmly, and if
they say no, just walk away.

Warnings
- Avoid becoming too helpful. As long as you stay calm and
mature, and try to do a few small chores throughout the day, your
parents will see it and appreciate it.
