How to Get over Strep Throat Quickly
So you've come down with a case of strep thraoat huh?? Well unless you want to miss whatever you planned on doing this week because of it, follow these steps to recover quickly from this nasty virus.
[edit] Steps
- Go to the doctor! He or she will give you a prescription and swab your throat to see how serious it is. Take your prescription to the drugstore and follow it.
- Go straight to bed once you get home, and try to get some sleep. Suck on menthol cough drops or spray your throat with a Tylenol spray (it's less intense than some other sprays, but others work, too). (Combining the two are way too strong, and might damage the lining of your throat!) But using the spray, then sucking on a cough drop in thirty or forty minutes when the numbing effects of the spray wears off should be okay.
- Drink lots and lots of liquids, including water, 100% fruit juices, chicken broth, and hot green tea with honey and lemon. The honey helps to heal your throat while the Vitamin C in the lemon combats the bacterium. The liquids contain some stuff you need, and are easy to eat with a sore throat.
- Try to sleep as much as possible, about four to five hours a day, not including your regular sleep time, which should be about eight to nine hours when you're sick. Cover up with blankets and try not to have any drafts or overhead fans on, as these can cause postnasal drip, worsening your sore throat.
- Wash your hands with anti-bacterial soap and hot water often, and keep a bottle or Germ-X or other hand sanitizer with you at all times.
[edit] Tips
- A list of easy to eat foods include: Pudding, jello, soups, toast, bread, fruit, cooked vegetables, and baby food. Baby food is great because it's made with added vitamins and minerals that combat streptococcus (strep) extremely well.
[edit] Warnings
- Stay away from other people! If you must go to work, carry hand sanitizer and don't kiss, hug, or touch anyone else's body parts.
- Don't prepare food for other people or handle other people's food.
