How to Get out of a False Accusation on wikiHow

On wikihow, the goal is to build a large how-to manual. During editing, however, false accusations can be made. You can be accused of being underage, a vandal or troll. You could even be blocked. Mistakes do occur, and we need to know how to handle them.

[edit] Steps

  1. Try not to get into fights with anyone. If you do, it could be the basis of a false accusation. If you do get into a fight with someone, apologize if you were wrong and back off. Try ignoring the person if possible.
  2. Check the admin notice board every so often. If you notice that you have been posted there for something you have not done, contact the person who posted you there. Be polite and explain your point of view.
  3. Don't be rude or frantic. This can be misunderstood as being mean.
  4. If you end up getting blocked, remember you can always contact wikiHow Support to ask that they evaluate your block. Send an email to blocked (at) wikihow.com explaining what happened and provide any evidence you have to back up your case.
  5. Analyze the situation. Perhaps you have done something wrong, so if you cannot recognize it, consider asking someone. This will help you.
  6. If you were blocked/got into trouble due to an enemy despite of the fact that you were innocent, don't let it go. Contact other admins.
  7. Consider leaving your account and making a new account so old enemies won't recognize you. Email your trusted friends who won't tell anyone, revealing that you are that same user.

[edit] Tips

  • Try to stay out of trouble. This includes no vandalism, excessive chatting, or rude behaviour/threatening.
  • Keep a list of helpful people handy, and know who good admins are.

[edit] Warnings

  • If you have truly done something wrong, it is better to accept it than to fight.
  • If you get threatened, back out and report the case to the admin notice board/trusted admins.
