How to Get a Swedish Driver's License (for Immigrants and Students)
Getting a Swedish Driver's License is a very complicated, expensive and time-consuming process with many steps that does not seem very useful or necessary. But meanwhile, it may be fun and interesting. "In Rome do as Romans do", if you have come to Sweden it's better to get a Swedish driving license rather than using your foreign driving license.
[edit] Steps
- Go to a optician and get your eyes examined and receive paper showing your eligibility for driving.
- Apply for the Permission to Drive from your local Government Representative Office. (Länsstyrelsen)
- Apply for your Password for booking exams. (at Vägverket website)
- Book a theory test and pass it
- Book a Driving Risk Course (halkbana)
- Book a Practical Test and pass it
[edit] Tips
- Get your Swedish ID card before the very first step
- You may practice at either a driving school or with anybody with a 5-years-old driving license provided that the two of you together get certified by a traffic school to "learn" privatly. Call your local kommun for questions about this.
- Study too much for the theory test and expect even the most foolish questions
- Driving Risk Course is a 5-hours practice. (No pass/fail)
- In Practical Test, drive as normal as you always do, don't pretend anything.
