How to Fill a Dog's Stocking for Christmas

If your dog is a member of the family, it can be fun to fill a Christmas stocking for him or her. A dog stocking can also be a great gift for a dog owner you know.

[edit] Steps

  1. Buy or make the stocking. You will need to buy the dog a stocking. At many stores, there are stocking shaped like bones, dogs, etc. Or, you can just buy a plain red stocking, and get iron-on letters to spell the dog's name.
  2. Determine what to put in it. Include a Christmas collar (if the dog does not already have one), a dog tag, a nylon dog bone, squeaky toys, treats, leashes, Kong toys, dog shampoo/conditioners (you can buy these in a trial size), a comb, and a sweater for the snow (if the dog is small enough and if he likes it). Don't overfill it, and be sure the things are mostly for the dog, and not for yourself.
  3. Fill the stocking with whatever items you have purchased. Place the biggest toys at the bottom, then the sweater. Then, place any treats/food you have bought last at the top.
  4. Hang the stocking. Hang it where the dog cannot get it, especially if it looks like a toy or smells like treats. Hang it by the chimney along with everyone else's.
  5. Wait for Christmas to come, and have fun helping him open and explore his new toys.

[edit] Tips

  • At Christmas, supervise the dog with his new items.
  • Put a wrapped gift for him under the tree; let him open it if possible.
  • Poop-scooping bags are ok to put in, but don't give them to the dog.
  • If you buy shampoo, conditioner, or other liquids, be sure to put them in a zipper sandwich bag so that if they leak, you don't have a mess to clean up.
  • At Claire's, you can buy edible cards for dogs, Pup-Tart puppy pasteries, sweaters, and more.
  • There is no need to wrap gifts for a dog, nor to fill a stocking to the brim, unless you are getting them for a dog owner. There is also no need to use a hugh stocking or spend too much money.

[edit] Warnings

  • Be careful buying little things.
  • Remove all tags before putting the items in the stocking.
  • Don't let the dog chew on the stocking, especially if it has any parts dangling loose.
  • You may want to open the stocking for him, for safety reasons.
  • Keep him away from bags, as he can suffocate without supervision.
