I have a matte LCD screen and the Vaseline method worked well. The scratch (caused by the careless movement of a power drill - ouch) is still visible, but not nearly as much as it was. It's a good, cheap fix for minor scratches.

Eraser didn't work on a deep scratch for me. I really didn't see any effect. The good news is that it didn't damage the resistive touch screen!

I had a small scratch and it wasn't very deep but it was right in the middle of my new 22" monitor from an item that fell off my hutch. I had been depressed about it for a few weeks because it kept staring me in the face whenever I used it. I have been searching like mad for a solution and gave the eraser method a shot. A swipe of a white pencil eraser refill and it is completely gone. It's unbelievable. No smudges or residue. I don't know how well it would work on deep scratches but for ones like mine it's golden.

sweet fancy moses, I used Neosporin (white petroleum base) and it made the scratch on my monitor go from intolerable to hardly noticeable.

My Samsung LCD TV had a big scratch (the TV fell from the table). The scratch was very noticeable visually and by touch. I tried the eraser method and is incredible! I first started with a small scratch and immediately dissapeard! The bigger scratches required more work, I had to press the eraser a little harder, but eventually all dissapeared.

I don't recommend the eraser method. I attempt it on a Dell laptop LCD (non glass type) and it did not get rid of the scratches, only create a permanent dark residue on the screen. The residue is only visible when the screen is pushed far downwards and under certain lighting conditions. Since I'm a really anal person, I'm forced to go and purchase a replacement LCD because of this and down $200. :(
I would recommend you test it on a LCD you aren't using first.

A pink eraser, the regular kind at the end of a pencil, left a dark smudge, which was at least as noticeable as the scratch. A white eraser might have worked better. The Vaseline/Neosporin worked much better, leaving only a little color distortion where the scratch was.

Used a cheap white eraser on my DLP that had scratches on it (from my 2 year old). It worked pretty good; not perfect, but good. I feel that if I go and purchase a good white eraser, it might work better. However.....Although it seemed to erase away the scratches, on dark pictures, I can see an "eraser" residue that is left behind. I am going to try a higher quality eraser and maybe NovuPolish#1 that will clean the screen and hopefully remove the eraser residue. After I try this I will try to post back here to update everyone; if anyone actually reads this post past the few "dozen" posts.

I got a mark on my screen (at first thought it was mucous because my dog sneezes and get snots on my screen and they harden and are really hard to get off) but when i tried to scratch it off (very very gently) i realized it wasn't coming out. i ran my fingernail along it and instead of a bump I felt it fall into the mark. I almost passed out and googled up this page.
Anyways i tried the eraser technique for about 5 minutes but to no avail and then decided to give petroleum jelly a try. It leaves a mark (like when you get water on the screen, yea like a miniature rainbow on my screen) i cant really see the mark unless i look for it and when the screen is off it really looks like hell. Point is when the monitor is on i can barely see the mark but it is still there and i must say
NONE of these techniques can permanently get rid of a scratch, all they can do is cover it up.

I had a huge scratch on my PSP and it was noticeable from any angle. I followed the directions but used White Petroleum Jelly Vaseline instead of regular Vaseline and it worked great. It didn't completely remove the scratch because it was incredibly big, but it did dramatically reduce the size. The scratch is only barely noticeable and can be seen from a few angles only.

This is all kinds of awesome! I noticed a couple of scratches on my new LCD screen this morning, and wondered all day how I was going to fix it, or just live with it. This page was the first hit on google, and within two minutes it was scratch free. Why did it take two minutes? I had trouble finding an eraser :-)

Hey Up
Found two superficial light scratches on my Samsung 40" glossy LCD TV screen today. Found this page, used a 'NEW' Staedtler white eraser to rub away the scratch and immediately wiped the area with a wet microfibre cloth to remove the residue and the scratches have disappeared completely!! Top tip jimbob, thanks a lot!

I bought a very scarred Samsung 2493hm from 2ndturn (bestbuy) on Fleabay. When it arrived I was stunned at how bad it actually was, looked like somebody slide it down a concrete walkway. So when I found this wikihow eraser trick I though "no F'ing way this works". But then I though, what do you have to lose? I went to Wal-Mart and got a paper mate "pink pearl" eraser for a buck and went to work on it. I simply can't believe my eyes. You can't even tell it was damage. THANK YOU WIKIHOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had some scratches on my big screen DLP screen. A ceiling tile fell against it. I took the tiniest bit of Neosporin on the tip of my pinky after cleaning the screen with a microfiber cloth and monster screen cleaner. I very lightly rubbed it on the scratch and it nearly vanished before my eyes. The eraser did not work. When the tv is off you can see a little oily mark but for viewing purposes it is f'ing great. Thank God because I was about to flip out.

My 3 year old decieded to get up very early in the morning and play with my laptop. Not sure how or with what, but he made 3 deep scratches on the screen.
I tried the eraser: Didn't work, it did smooth out the scratch a little, but still very visable. Needed to use eyeglass cleaner to remove the black smudges.
Tried the Vasl.:First of, the scratches have a rainbow look when over a white background. Using this method only magnified this look. It did cover the scratch up till I removed the vasl..
Overall: I can see how the eraser would work for light scratches, and maybe some a little worse, but if deep, using the eraser till the scratches were gone would do more damage the good. So, eraser is worth a try as a perm fix, but vasl would only be a temp fix. As it is moist it will collect dust after a while and need to be cleaned out and replaced. Good luck. I will just have to deal with it, can't afford to replace a 17" screen.

I just used karshine scratch remover, which you can find in any carshop and amazingly, I did not see any difference, until i left it for several minutes and then took it off with a cheap screen clean stuff, and soft towel, there is no scratch left anymore. I have a powerbook G4 which was scratched because of the keyboard pressing into the screen while travelling. Now i got a brand new screen, at least that's what it looks like
amazing!!
