How to Cope With Hunger
If you have ever found yourself alone and not able to get food for a while, you will know what it's like to be so hungry. Maybe if you are camping out in the wild and you run out of food you could start going hungry. Besides trying to find food, there are things you can do to fight hunger.
[edit] Steps
- Search for food. Look for edible plants and berries. Look for people who might be able to lend you some food. Or, try to head to town. Stay hydrated.
- Look for animals to hunt.
- If you are trying to head to town and it's a few day's journey away, leave some of your load behind, as they are easier to replace than your life and will only slow you down and require more energy. If it is hot, in the daytime try to find shade to sleep in, and travel by night. Bring cash so that you can buy some things in town.
- Suck on your tongue. It will make your body feel like you are drinking, and your spit will go back into circulation a few hours later. But be careful, because this may leave your mouth dry.
- Don't think about food. Thinking about it won't get it to you any faster, only make you drool. When you remind yourself how hungry you are, it almost seems like your body gets even hungrier. So, put all those restaurant commercials out of your mind.
[edit] Tips
- Always try to prepare by bringing non-perishable foods. Canned or sealed foods work great. Make sure they are not expired.
- You die about 3-4 days without water. Bring lots of water bottles and maybe a water purifier for streams if it will be a long trip.
- You can go weeks without eating, the more fat you have stored, the longer.
- You can read books or websites on surviving in the wilderness. From that, you can learn techniques and all about edible plants and roots.
- Never attempt one of those diets where you starve yourself. It slows down your metabolism and makes you eat more in the end.
- Try to sleep and forget that you're very hungry. You may have a growling stomach for a long time, but ignore that.
[edit] Warnings
- Never attempt to practice this at home!
- Ideally, you should never go hungry in the first place and be prepared, but just in case...
- If you are planning to eat any berries or plants there is a big risk. Read this wikihow article: Test-if-a-Plant-Is-Edible For more information.
