Celebrate Father's Day in a special way.
- Include all the dads. Celebrate Father's Day with not
only your father but also husbands, would-be future dads, your
uncles, and brothers. Don't forget step-fathers. They are just
important!
- Make it a family event. Get everyone together for a fun
day.
- Acknowledge the importance Dads play in our every day
lives. They are working hard every day to support their families
financially and emotionally.
- Appreciate the many facts of fatherhood. Sure, your dad
may have been strict, but chances are he wanted a better life for
you than he thought you were heading toward. Fathers guide us in
many ways. Some we understand clearly and others are not so
apparent. Remember the times you were embarrassed to have Dad
around and now you understand his behavior completely.
- Tell him you're sorry for past hurts. Tell him you love
him again and again. When he is gone you will wish you had.
- Remember, it does not take gifts to make a Dad happy, it
takes hard work commitment and lots of love.
- Look at old photos of you and your dad doing fun things
together. Take a walk down memory lane. You may be surprised at how
many things you both have forgotten about.
- Pack a picnic, have a barbecue (let him know better
about the fine points of grilling, if he is so inclined), and spend
some time together. Bake a cake or make his favorite dinner.
- Take in a favorite sporting event or go fishing
together. Sports are social events, too.
- artistically inclinedIf you're , paint a portrait of
your father from a current photo, or write him a poem or a
song.
- Rub his feet. If they're smelly, you might wash them
first. Either way, someday those feet will be gone and after all,
they have carried you a long way.
- Whatever you decide to do, take pictures to remember today,
too.
- Send your brother a card and tell him what a good dad he has
turned out to be, even if he only has cats!
- Uncles need to be remembered, too, for the important role they
have played in your life.
- All the fights and discipline you may had encountered with your
dad play some part in your life today.
- Good or bad, understand that they were kids once and never
learned how to be a father until they had you.
