How to Categorize a wikiHow Article

Once a new wikiHow article has been completed, it must be categorized to make it easier for a reader to locate the article. Follow this procedure to place your article within an appropriate category:

  1. Click on the category list below or click on "Categories" found at the left at the top of this page.
  2. Click on each general category to review several sub-categories.
  3. Click on each sub-category to review several more sub-categories.
  4. Choose the most relevant and "lowest" category that best describes the major theme of your article.


Guided Editor Method

  1. Click on the "Edit" tab at the top of the article.
  2. Select the general category from the left pop-down menu.
  3. Select the sub-category from the right pop-down menu.
  4. If you would like to add another category, click on "Add Another Category."
  5. At the bottom of the article, click on "Save Page" to save your changes.


Advanced Editor Method

  1. Click on the "Edit" tab at the top of the article.
  2. Click on "Advanced Editing" at the top of the article.
  3. Place your cursor below your introduction and type the name of your chosen category as shown:

    [[Category:Your Category Name]]
    
    .
  4. Leave a space between the introduction and the category. Leave another space between the category and the steps.
  5. Review your capitalizations and spelling for error. To properly categorize, your capitalization and spelling must be "identical" to the capitalization and spelling used in the category list.
  6. At the bottom of the article, click on "Save Page" to save your changes.
