How to Catch a Stray Cat
You know that cuddly looking cat that sits and meows on your front porch? Or the tabby that frolics in your front yard by the long grass? Have you ever wondered how to catch it and keep it, or take to the Pet Shop? Well, read on.
[edit] Steps
- Think carefully about whether this is an owned cat or a stray. You should not feed an owned cat, who may have special dietary medical needs of which you are unaware. See a related wiki on handling stray cats.
- Approach the cat slowly, if you run up to it, it's more likely to run away.
- Give the cat a treat and walk away, watch and see if the cat eats the treat. Give it time and patience, as the cat may or may not take it.
- Put the dishes full of food and water on the porch. Also, put some additional treats out there too. If the cat eats the food, keep doing that until its used to you and the food.
- Approach the cat slowly and put your arm out with a treat. If it eats the treat out of your hand, stay there and let it come to you.
- Repeat steps two to three times a day and try to pick it up. If it let's you, you have successfully caught a cat.
[edit] Tips
- After step five if the cat still won't let you pick it up, you should try again tomorrow.
- If a week goes by, ask a friend who has experience with cats.

[edit] Warnings
- Stray cats can bite, scratch, and pounce, so watch out!
- Feeding stray cats on your front porch may simply attract more cats.
- As stated before, never feed an owned cat unless you have permission from there owner to. It could have diabetic issues or may start to stray away from where the neighbors want the cat to go.
