How to Care for a Toy Poodle

Ever wondered whats the basics for caring for toy poodles? You've come to the right place! Here there are tips, guidelines and even warnings... just in case you are a little fuzzy on the sides!

[edit] Steps

  1. Allow the toy poodle get used to your house. If you have other dogs, it is preferred to let the dog explore by itself and then meet the other dog(s).
  2. Let the dog get used to its own name. Try calling the dog's name. Do this while the dog is busy playing -- go to another room and call its name. If your dog comes to you, it's getting used to its name already.
  3. Food. If your dog is still a puppy, buy puppy food for it especially for small dogs (if possible house type dog). If your dog is a adult, same but with adult, but the size would still be considered small.
  4. For puppies, feed it three times everyday (breakfast, lunch, dinner). But for adults, two times is enough (breakfast, dinner). It depends on your dog for how much your dog will eat. If you feed your dog only two times a day and it eats very fast, add a little bit more food. On the other hand, if your dog always leaves extra, reduce your dog's food.
  5. Walks. Toy poodles are made to be indoor animals, but at least walk the puppies three times everyday. When older, you can walk it two times. Make sure on each walk that it poops and pees every time.
  6. Tricks. Toy poodles are made to be one of the smartest dogs of all. A toy poodle is extremely smart. If you do praise it, it will start liking you even more, and doing things for you. If you don't, well, that's up to you.
  7. Commanding. When your dog does something bad, don't ever say its name along with no. You must say "No" loudly but never add its name. Because then, your dog will think that its name is a bad word and it will think it did something bad every time you call it.

[edit] Tips

  • The dog will feel a lot more comfortable if you love it and care for it a lot back.
  • Always praise your dog with treats if it does something right, like poops outside instead of on the floor.

[edit] Warnings

  • Don't ever leave your dog alone on vacation
