How to Burst a Balloon With a Penny
Maybe someone out there can comment on the physics behind this.
[edit] Steps
- Place penny inside a 10" or 12" round empty balloon
- Inflate the balloon to its proper capacity
- Tie off the balloon
- Begin swirling balloon around in a small circular motion of the wrist with one hand
- Quick swirling motion should get the penny moving around the inside circumference of the balloon
- Soon the penny will be rolling around on its edge inside the balloon
- Continue motion until balloon bursts
[edit] Tips
- Inflate balloon to its full capacity, do not over inflate or under inflate
- Balloons used for helium are not recommended for this exercise as they take 2-3 times longer to burst
- Any coin can be substituted in this exercise, pennies or dimes are recommended because they are light weight & won't hurt as much if they hit you
[edit] Warnings
- If using cheap party balloons, there is an exceptionally loud noise when the balloon pops
- This is not recommended for children
- Penny can fly in any direction upon leaving the burst balloon
- Balloon parts need to be retrieved & discarded upon completion of this exercise
